What's wrong with chicken and rice

How many times have you heard advice from bodybuilders and fitness gurus who swore by the power of chicken and rice as the ultimate staples for a healthy diet? Like many others, I believed that these foods were the key to achieving my fitness goals and maintaining optimal health. Little did I know, this belief was about to be challenged in ways I never imagined.

As I delved deeper into the world of nutrition and health, I stumbled upon some unsettling truths about chicken and rice – truths that would forever change the way I viewed my dietary choices. You see, while these foods may seem harmless at first glance, they come with a hidden cost that can have profound implications for your health.

Chicken and arsenic

Let's start with chicken. Contrary to popular belief, chicken isn't always the pristine source of protein we've been led to believe.

In fact, studies have shown that chicken can contain higher levels of arsenic compared to other meats ¹ ². Arsenic, a known toxin, can wreak havoc on your body and disrupt your hormonal balance ³ , potentially leading to a host of health issues down the line.

You see, roxarsone was commonly fed to chickens and thought to be responsible for the high arsenic content, but despite it being banned in 2011, later reports still show high arsenic levels in chicken and poultry.

Now I'm not here to tell you to never eat chicken...

But if it's something you are consuming on a daily basis it might be a problem and you should at least try to buy organic when possible...

RICE and arsenic

But it doesn't stop there. Rice, the go-to carbohydrate for many fitness enthusiasts, also has its own dark secrets.

High levels of arsenic have also been found in rice . What's more, rice contains beta-glucans, compounds that have been linked to the suppression of testosterone and other androgens . This can have serious implications for your overall well-being and fitness goals.

As a substitute for rice, organic quinoa is an excellent choice. Notably, quinoa is a seed, not a grain, making it a healthier option. Wild-caught salmon and grass-fed beef are other great choices to substitute chicken with.
